# eth_protocolVersion

POST https://rpc.plume.org/YOUR_API_KEY

Returns the client-defined Ethereum protocol version as a hex-encoded integer. **Caveat:** since The Merge, the network no longer has a single 'protocol version' in the original sense — the value returned is a static client-defined integer (the specific value varies by client) and is not particularly useful for most applications. Many client teams have stopped maintaining this value upstream. Available on Conduit RPCs but rarely needed.
